What is a Book Thread?

The components of this series—from the lessons to the fiction chapter books to the nonfiction articles and journals—seamlessly weave together to form a cohesive instructional arc of 10 lessons. Each group of 10 lessons and their accompanying resources is called a Book Thread.

36 trade-style Chapter Books

Divided across three grade-level collections (3–5), these authentic chapter books invite students to connect with engaging characters and their stories while providing opportunities to build literacy skills and reading stamina.

Teacher’s Guides

Grade-level Teacher’s Guides provide practical implementation support and explicit lessons with scaffolds grounded in the books students are reading. The 10 lessons that accompany each chapter book follow a research-based scope and sequence for phonics, vocabulary and word analysis, fluency, and comprehension.

Student Journals & Paired Nonfiction Articles

Book Threads (of 10 lessons that accompany each chapter book) connect each chapter book to the student journal and paired nonfiction article with exclusive “Coach Kwame Writing Tips,” giving students opportunities to reflect, write, discuss, and build knowledge.

Digital Resources to Extend Learning

From “Warm Up with Coach Kwame” videos and Fandom Short videos to audio-supported eBooks, digital resources give students more ways to stay connected to the stories beyond the page.
